Jé-Joh Shén Acupressure/Massage
Jé-Joh Shén Acupressure/Massage is a multi-focussed application of Jé-Joh Shén acupressure techniques of direct pressure and lifting up muscle but also uses stroking, kneading, stretching and percussive movements (tapping) with the thumbs and fingers on acu-points. Jé-Joh Shén moves out from the heart. Jé-Joh Shén aims to re-balance the flow of (Ki) bio-energy in the meridians. Jé-Joh Shén work is done primarily with the thumbs and fingers on specific points known as tsubos (acu-point energy centres). These are the "wells" through which the meridian streams can be accessed. By breaking up congested channels and re-balancing the flow, natural healing can take place.
Benefits Of Jé-Joh Shén Acupressure/Massage:
First, the direct application of the Acupoint can have provide relief for many different dis-eases both physical and emotional.
There are many different styles and traditions within the large and ancient field of acupressure. Jé-Joh Shén employs acupoints along a network of bio-energetic pathways that nourish life within the body. When one or more of these pathways become blocked, a local disruption can occur, eventually resulting in disharmony of the bio-energetic pathway completely. Application of the Jé-Joh Shén Acupressure brings balance, releases deep tension and emotions that are stored in the body and restores harmonious flow along the bio-energetic pathways.
Jé-Joh Shén (pronounced - G-Jo Shin) basically means "first step of spiritual balance". There are several acupoints that can easily be learned for self care as the first step to restoring health and balance to your physical body which your practitioner will teach you.
Jé-Joh Shén Acupressure works at both a physical level and psychological level - for example: Type 1 treatment looks to relieve symptomatically discomfort and to promote healing of ailments; this is like "fingertip aspirin." Type 2 treatment aims to balance the flow of vital life force bio-energy to and from the body's twelve vital organs and glands. When they are hyperactive or underactive they begin to malfunction. Then symptoms of dis-ease and illness (pain, discomfort and other forms of suffering) arise.
A Jé-Joh Shén session by a practitioner for complete body balance generally lasts an hour, and does not involve use of substances. It is a gentle, yet powerful art, practised by placing fingertips onto the acupoints in specific combination.
Jé-Joh Shén is a natural art which facilitates the restoration of an individual's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance.
A Jé-Joh Shén treatment begins with the practitioner taking a history, doing a clinical assessment and listening to the pulse, which reveals to the practitioner information about the current flow of bio-energy and state of being of the client. Unlike western medicine, the emphasis is not on diagnosing, but on harmonising. All dis-ease begins with blockages of bio-energy, and the pulse shows the practitioner the specific acupoints that need to be held to restore the harmonious flow, without creating additional stress in the client's mind about the condition.
The remaining treatment consists of gently, but firmly holding acupoints in various combinations until complete harmony of bio-energy and pulsation is established. Enough pressure applied that it can hurt, but is not painful. The sensation should be between pain and pleasure, the feeling is that of a “good hurt.” The practitioner uses his/her hands enabling universal bio-energy to flow through the client's body and reawaken its natural healing ability.
As simple as this technique is, it yields amazing results physically, as well as emotionally. It is effective in relieving pain; stiff, spastic, or strained muscles and joints; respiratory conditions; appetite imbalance; and reproductive difficulties. It has a dramatic effect on emotional problems such as depression and anxiety, and people frequently have experiences of spiritual integration during or after a session. Stress is alleviated and the client leaves feeling much more centred and relaxed. Although for chronic conditions several sessions might be needed, improvement is usually experienced after only one session.
General Guidelines for Jé-Joh Shén Acupressure Techniques:
- To relax an area or relieve pain, gentle pressure is applied for 30 seconds, increasing the pressure until quite firm. This is Held for one to three minutes, gently releasing pressure while rotating (vibrating)in a counter-clock wise direction over 30 seconds to gradually come off the point.
- Enough pressure applied that it can hurt, but is not painful. The sensation should be between pain and pleasure, a "good hurt."
- Acupoints occur in symmetrical pairs; one point on the left side of your body mirrors the same spot on the right side of the body. It is important that both spots are treated equally.
- Large muscle areas like shoulders or calves are warmed up by kneading the area before applying pressure to points.
- Quickly tapping areas by using the fingertips stimulates muscles just under the skin surface.
- Persistence and consistency is important. Acute conditions may require two or three treatments per day.
Second, the therapeutic Acu-massage aspect:
- Improves muscle tone and helps return venous blood to the heart easing the strain on this vital organ of the body; and stimulates the nerves and reflex points throughout the body.
- Relieves the pressure causing muscular aches and pains by allowing the body's blood and lymph systems to relax.
- Increases blood supply and nutrition to muscles without adding to their load of toxic lactic acid.
- Allows body bio-energy to be balanced by opening the body's channels allowing available life force to be absorbed by the body.
- Helps to recondition and revitalize the skin, which helps bring back elasticity to all body muscles.
- Promotes emotional balance, calms the mind, instils a wonderful sense of well being.
- The massage can be either deeply relaxing or highly invigorating as you guide the practitioner to meet your needs.
General Acu-massage Technique:
- Light Pressure: This improves circulation and provides stimulation to the muscles, nerves and the internal organs of the recipient.
- Rubbing and kneading: Used primarily on the muscles, this increases circulation and metabolism. It also helps muscles recover from fatigue, while strengthening them and improving their resilience.
- Pressing: This has a calming effect that is good for the treatment of neuralgia and muscular tension and aches.
- Vibration: This improves the functioning of finely branched nerves and small muscles.
- Tapping: This improves circulation and the motor nerves in the skin and muscles, relieving fatigue and increasing metabolism.
- Circular pressure: This is used to break up and encourage the absorption of deposits in the joints.
