Schedule For Pre-marital Counselling

Week 1 of Counselling

a)       Review the format of the Pre-martial Counselling Program;

b)       Collect fees (if required);

c)       Complete the Pre-martial Counselling Information Sheet;

d)       Hand out materials to be used and discuss the homework requirements;

e)       Share stories and get to know each other as couples.

Week 2 of Counselling

a)       Draw a “genogram” with the couple and discuss its implications;

b)       Begin exploring the responses to the “Marriage Expectation Inventory” (MEI)
starting with MEI - 1 “In-Law Expectations”;

Week 3 of Counselling

a)       MEI - 2 “Relationship History and Spousal Qualities”

b)       MEI - 3 “Giving and Receiving Love”

Week 4 of Counselling

a)       MEI - 4 “Communication”

b)       MEI - 5 “Conflict Resolution”

Week 5 of Counselling

a)       MEI - 6 “Our Sexual Relationship”

b)       MEI - 7 “When It Gets Bad: A Week with my future Partner”

Week 6 of Counselling

a)       MEI - 8 “Interests I/We Have”

b)       MEI - 9 “Role, Money & Vocation Expectations”

Week 7 of Counselling

a)       MEI - 10 “Children and Our Expectations”

b)       MEI - 11 “Our Spiritual Relationship”

Week 8 of Counselling (possible)

MEI - 12 “Pre-Marital Questionnaire for those previously married”
